Welcome to the       Buzzards Bay Rowing Club!

Where to start about the Buzzards Bay Rowing Club?

We are going into our fifth year and have over 100 members, 2 whaleboats and 2 Concept II rowing machines. We are still young and organizing. The purpose of “The Buzzards Bay Rowing Club” is, “to educate and train men and women of all ages in the sport of rowing; to promote fitness and competition; and develop and promote services and programs which address the physical well being of the community at large”.

We offer open rows 4 times a week, Tuesday and Wednesday at 6PM, Saturday at 10 am and from May – to when ever we can a Friday 6AM row. You can come out and row with us 3 times before joining. Check out the schedule because these change from time to time.

We are an all-volunteer non-profit organization. We have fund-raisers and try to make them fun. We’ve had races, yard sales, raffles and golf tournaments. The purpose of our fund raisers is to support our non-profit status. We are able to offer scholarships and participate in giving back to the community in many ways.

Since we were all about doing things we have planned through the year a series of kayaking, biking and hiking outings. In April 06 eight of us took a bike trip to Italy, in August ‘07 fourteen of us went to Arcadia Maine, and in August '08 twelve of us went to Long Lake in the Adirondacks. There we hiked and biked and once again came to the realization that the BBRC was a great organization. The 2009 trip has yet to be determined.

Can’t forget to mention races… We participate in many races. From our own Row for the Bay and Working Waterfront Race to those offered in Hull, Essex, Martha’s Vineyard and Plymouth. I think last year the BBRC participated in 9 to 10 different races. It is a great opportunity to meet other rowers and see some really beautiful boats.

Membership is $100.00 for individuals and for an additional family member it would be another $75.00 then $50.00 for each additional family member. We have an Associate membership of $25.00 for those members who don’t row but like to take part in the other activities. The rates go down to ˝ after October first except for the Associate that stays at $25.00 all year long.

If you know someone who would like to learn to be a boatsteerer but doesn't care to row his or her membership is free. We have a few of those.

I don't know what else to tell you we are happy to mail you a membership application or feel free to join us at our next General meeting at the Sail Loft building in Fairhaven at 12 Union Street. The meetings are open to all and are every other month. Our Website has lots of great information so be sure to browse around.
